It started in 2005, we had just tied the knot, at the young age of 19 & 21. With this new found independence from our parents and dependence on each other we decided to take the big leap and open shop. It wasn’t really a question of what we would do, as we have always both studied and loved photography, it was a question of when and how. (As you may not know, we were still finishing up our undergraduate years at SUNY Oswego and didn’t have much in the way of money.) Those two questions were answered as I (Jenna) picked up the phone one day. Everything changed from that moment on. It was another photographer who shot with Nikon. We didn’t know him, but he knew us. He wanted to have us over the next day to give us some things to get us started.
As we walked in his house that sunny summer day, without a clue what was going to come from this short meeting, I stared in amazement at a beautiful Nikon D-70s, a 24-85mm lens, a 80-400mm lens, some other assorted accessories, and a Lowepro backpack to carry it all.
“Here you go,” he said. “I want you to have this to start your business.”
Both our jaws dropped, tears rolled down my cheek, as we were stunned that {practically} a stranger would be so kind and generous to give us something that would eventually change our lives.
The man continued on by saying, “The only thing that I require of you is that when you are done with this equipment that you pass it on to another photographer who is starting out.” We shook our heads with complete agreement, that didn’t seem to bad of a deal.
That is how Kain’s Photography was born. The rest is history! It is now 2011, 7 wedding seasons into opening shop. That Nikon D-70s has been long gone, but the memory of that day still plays over and over in both of our heads. We aren’t sure how he got our name and number, but we do know that God put him in our lives to help give us a boost, to start us out on something that God intended us to do.
We are so honored to be called photographers, and even more honored that we can be called YOUR photographers. Being at a wedding, birthday party, family reunion; It all is important to us! Life’s biggest moments are captured by us and we feel so privileged to create the photographs you will look at for years, decades, and generations to come. When you look back at your wedding on your 50th wedding anniversary, we hope you can remember that God put us at your wedding, just as he put that camera in our hands back in 2005.
